NOVA VET XPRESS KETONE METER
The Novavet ketone meter measures the concentration of beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHB) and displays it digitally in mmol/l.
This test can be used to detect cases of subclinical ketosis. High-producing cows lose a lot of energy during milk production. If the high energy requirements after calving are not compensated for by feed intake, an energy deficit develops. The cow will draw on her fat reserves, and ketone bodies will be formed when the fat is burned. It's important to detect this phenomenon early, because the economic consequences can be significant: a drop in milk production and fertility.
This test can be carried out quickly (just 10 seconds), on the spot, which is very practical. What's more, only one drop of blood is needed, so the result is immediately visible and the necessary measures can be taken immediately.
This Novavet reader has been developed exclusively for veterinary use. As the haematocrit value in cattle is very different from that in humans, this reader is more suitable than readers designed for humans. This is because the Novavet first measures the haematocrit value in the blood sample and the ketone result is adjusted accordingly.
The strip is brought into contact with the blood and draws up the required quantity by capillary action. The measuring principle is based on a specific electrochemical reaction and is much more accurate than semi-quantitative urine or milk strips.
